STEP 1: Sketch the Piece and Paint the Greenery

Sketch a pair of ravens perched on a bare branch high in a treetop. Using a 1/2-inch (12mm) flat, paint a background wash starting with Raw Umber in the upper third, blending to Sap Green in the middle, and Viridian Green at the bottom. Switch to a no. 4 round to get in the smaller corners and areas around the ravens’ legs. Don’t worry about painting over the smaller branches.
